There was a time when I did not care about Donald Trump. He never once was an errant thought in nearly 50 years. I didn’t care about his businesses or his family. He was never on my radar. When he was the game show host of The Apprentice, I still didn’t care.
As he went down the escalator to announce his bid for the Presidency of the United States, I still didn’t care about him. He was a sideshow. A guy who was trying to milk the noobs for money and notoriety. He wasn’t going to win the nomination, let alone the Presidency.
How wrong I was not to pay attention. How wrong I was to dismiss this spray-tanned, wannabe politician.
Is anyone really a fan of the guy born on third base and thinks he hit a triple? Of course not. Only the delusional, demented, and dumb think anyone like that is a great businessman. Yet far too many people decided that because Trump could “play” a successful businessman on television, he’d be a better guy to sit in the Oval Office.
While I’m sure The Apprentice played a part. I think the voters of this country had a different thought. I think they voted for Trump for laughs.
My opinion is that Donald Trump “Jessie Camp’d” his way to the Presidency in 2016.
Remember when MTV had a contest to pick a new VJ, and this dude Jesse Camp beat Dave Holmes? It was all “funny, ha ha.” Here’s this obviously qualified person with an encyclopedic knowledge of music over here, and over there is this lanky street kid who looks and talks funny. Of course, the weird kid won. They voted Camp in as a joke.
Camp was terrible. MTV knew it, but they kept him employed for a few years. The novelty got old. People tuned out. Camp left MTV, made a shitty record, and is nowhere to be found today.
MTV wisely hired Dave Holmes, and he had a much longer career at MTV. He was good at hosting things and was a pretty good writer. Today, he’s an Editor-At-Large for Esquire.
I tell you all this because Donald Trump is essentially Jesse Camp.
Enough “funny, ha ha” people voted for Trump in 2016, but by 2020 his schtick was tired. It was supposed to be a joke, but then people started listening to him and his crazy hits. Of course, just like Jesse, we learned the truth. Camp was born into a wealthy family. His “street kid” persona was an act. There was nothing of substance there. Same thing with Trump. He was never a skillful businessman; he was born wealthy. It’s all an act — a shell game.
Donald Trump is a fraud.
And now he’s guilty of fraud.
Judge Arthur Engoron, in one fell swoop, has destroyed the façade of “Trump, the successful businessman.” He ruled, in no uncertain terms, just how much of a fraud Donald Trump is by ordering him to pay $355 million for conspiring to manipulate his net worth. As The New York Times and other outlets have explained, the sum actually exceeds $450 million because of interest.

+ $99 million in interest on that fraud
+ $83 million to E. Jean Carroll
+ $5 million to E. Jean Carroll
+ Plus, interest in the E. Jean Carroll judgment
+ Plus, all legal fees

For three years, Trump can’t do business in the state of New York. It’s two years for his sons, plus an additional $4 million each from them.
Let’s see, now… carry the one… he owes more than half a billion dollars. Half. A. Billion.
A lifetime of grifting, cheating, and dishonestly has finally hit him where it hurts — his bank account. This is financial ruin for the Trump Organization and should be the end of Donald Trump as anything other than a punchline.
If he wants to appeal (and I’m sure he does), he’s going to have to find a lot of cash lying around, and you know, and I know it doesn’t exist. Do you think his son-in-law is going to let him “borrow” some of his $2 billion? I don’t think so.
What’s Trump’s brand? Successful businessman? That’s over. He is a con artist who drove his businesses into bankruptcy multiple times. He had a couple of casinos and still drove them to bankruptcy. How do you do that?
The losses keep piling up.
Just a few days ago, a date was set for Trump’s adult-film-star-hush-money trial in New York. So, add that to your scorecard, which includes his espionage trial, the federal January 6 trial, and the election interference trial in Georgia.
Lest we forget, the Trump Organization is going to need a new CEO straightaway.
